So our water heater is going out. It is corroded and leaking out the bottom. I"m buying a $550 gas heater and paying someone $140 to put it in. You can disregard the "What HD tv should I get" thread Shocked

I had a similar issue at my old place... couple inches of water in the basement, but nothing got ruined. good luck!

Seriously!! Cough up the money and go tankless. They are more efficient, and provide and endless supply of hot water. I believe if you buy the right model, you can actually get a tax rebate.
We sell them at my work now.

I agree with everyone in this thread. Tankless.

After buying our house, we realized our water heater was installed in 1986, it plugging away but the heat is slowly getting worse. What do tankless waterheaters run? 2 bath small home. I heard they can run up to like five grand.

one thing I like about having a 50 gal water heater in the basement is that I have 50 gal of fresh water when the fault line finally snaps

I found out more on the tankless.

This is a cool product that I recommend, if you live in california, arizona, or a warmer client.
If so you can get a 3 or 5 appliance tankless for about $1200 or less. Save tons of money after a couple years and feel all high and mighty about saving the environment and using less resources. plus continual hot water.

The reason is, that when you use tankless in utah the water temp input is like 40 - 50 degrees, in warmer climates the water input is like 60 - 70 degrees; So that means the $1200 great deal tankless is not going to cut it. You need to buy the $3000 version to get that extra power to deal with the colder water. Hence as the article that was a couple posts above states, it'll take 20+ years to recoup your investment.
