Are you filing just one W2 or do you have multiple streams of income coming? 1099's and the such? If you just have one W2 go with Turbotax. I have multiple W2's, 1099's, and crazy exemptions and deductions for different businesses and employees all in different states, so I go to an accountant that honestly works miracles! But he charges a couple hundred bucks and he's in Idaho Falls so I don't know if you want to go to that expense to get your taxes done. If you do, I can give you his info.

Don't bother with an accountant... turbotax is all you need. You can easily get the best version of Turbo Tax off of bit torrents or you can just do it online and you don't pay unless you're happy with the results.

I have been using an accountant for the last three years. She tells me shit I didn't even know I could write off. It's worth it. I itemize btw.

i used to always turbo tax it then I went to h and r block a few years back. worth every penny. they know all sorts of shit that I never knew about, and I also was able to stop worrying if I was doing shit wrong. oh, and my refunds through them were double or triple the amount of previous years when I did it myself.

yeah I ended up with 2,600 which is over double what I've ever gotten I think the most I've ever got before that was like 1,100 or something. For some reason it gave me all my tuition + plus expenses back? I'm not sure if that's a very large amount compared to most but that's like 11% of what I earned that year.

I got a letter from my bank telling me how much loan interest I paid. It was like 30 bucks and the letter told me to keep that info for my taxes. I did them on turbo tax and couldn't find anywhere to enter that in so I didn't do it. So w/e.

I've done Turbo Tax in the past, but now my tax status has changed since I'm married now. The wife put her own info into Turbotax and was set to get back a ton of money. Once she put my information in there, it essentially said I wasn't getting anything, and HALF of her original return suddenly vanished. So now I think I just need to go to HR block or something and have someone prepare it for me instead.
I thought you were supposed to get tax breaks for getting married?? More like serious penalties..

the feds do reward you for getting married, having kids... anything that can potentially create new little tax payers they are all for it... it sounds like she overpaid by a bunch & you probably didnt pay enough so combined you're getting hosed... the option is always there to file 'married but filing single' or something like that... see which way will get you the most money back overall
I haven't done my taxes yet... I am dreading them. I haven't gotten anything back in years, but I get to keep more of my paycheck & I feel better about myself not giving the feds an interest free loan.... why do I have to pay interest on any amount owed but they don't have to pay me interest for my overpayment?

I remember last year I did turbo tax as well and I accidentally filled out the like deluxe one that you pay a bunch of money for and didn't realize it til the end. So I went back and did the free one after it said how much I was getting. Then when I finished the free version I ended up getting like 150$ more than if I would have used turbo tax deluxe. Not including how much it would have cost to use that one.
